McLuhans at the Center

So, one of the high points of last month's (is September really last month already?) Media at the Center Marshall McLuhan Centenary Symposium at Fordham University was the keynote address given by Eric McLuhan on the topic of "Media and Formal Cause" (the title of the recently published book which you can order just over on the right of this post).  And since he brought his son Andrew with him, I thought it would be great to have him introduce his father, and thereby take part in the symposium.  So here now are a few photographs from that session.

First, here's Andrew McLuhan telling us all about his dad:

And now here's Eric McLuhan doing his thing:

And here's a fun fact.  You may know that Marshall McLuhan name was actually Herbert Marshall McLuhan, right?  Well, it turns out that Eric McLuhan's name is Thomas Eric Marshall McLuhan.  And as for his son, well he's Andrew Marshall McLuhan.  As Eric explained, Marshall is a family surname (I suppose this is an alternative to creating a hyphenated surname).  And as Andrew explained to me, "We're all Marshall McLuhans here."

(Previous posts on this topic include Media @ the Center: A McLuhan Centenary Symposium at FordhamMcLuhan on Radio, McLuhan Nostalgia at Fordham University, Scenes From the Center, and Good Coverage, just to keep track of all the McLuhans that I've been doin').
